Dear Diners and Quaffers,
Here in West End, on the day that Andy Murray is likely to ensure we choke on our Strawberries, the sky is cloudy and it is possibly a bit too cool to dine al fresco, even though the baskets are looking colourful and the plants turgid. The week has been mixed, with a surprise visit on Tuesday from the Fire Brigade, coming to inspect the fire alarm that they asked us to install last November at no little cost, and an Environmental Health inspection on Wedenesday, which passed off with no problems. Broadband in the wineshop remains elusive, as do the signs that I am assured will arrive by the end of the month, though they haven't specified which month, or which year for that matter. Alan is relieved to finally feature in the Inn comic strip on the website and Lee is noticeable by his absence having married Kate last Sunday and disappeared off on honeymmoon. In his absence, John and the others are trialling new dishes for the menu which will change again in the near future. As usual, all feddback welcome.
Your ideas for new dishes on the menu haven't been flooding in yet so I ought to repeat the suggestion. We like your involvement in developing what we do here and would welcome your input for the next menu change. If you would like to make a suggestion for something you would like to see on the new menu, please e-mail it here for my or Lees attention giving the ingredients, method and presentation and suggested name. We will pick the one we most like the look of and ask you to come and help develop it to 'ready to serve stage' and give you and a partner a meal here to taste it. Closing date for entries will be July 20th, so get your thinking caps on.
Dan is settling in well at the Wine Shop, which various people think we should have called 'Stop! Wine Inn', and has a Rose, two whites and a red open, should you want to pop in for a tasting today or tomorrow. The sparkling is from Muga, called Conde de Haro and is beautifully fruity and dry and well worth just under £15 a bottle, less if you have 6 or more. Tonight the shop is open until 8pm and tomorrow 'till 6 and there are lots of interesting wines to see and talk about, as well as the ones he has open. Dan and I are getting ready for the official opening which will be on September 8th to the 10th with a major tasting event and culminating in a wine bar at the Ag and Hort.show on the field on Saturday afternoon. Make sure you put the date in the diary.
Rather sooner, we are having a wine tasting supper on Sunday 17th November from 6pm onwards, with a two course supper and six wines for just £29.95. Dan and I will be here to talk vinous things and help you enjoy the evening, so do book a table.
Finally, I know that the Quiz night on the first Sunday of the month is a love hate thing so for all of you that love it, Martin looks forward to seeing you this Sunday evening. The quiz starts at about 7.45 so why not book a table and give yourself some food for thought?!
We look forward to seeing you for a pint of Cornish Coaster or glass of wine over the weekend.
Best Wishes
Gerry, Ann and all the Gang at The Inn @ West End
PS have a look at the Voucher Choice website as there will be a couple of offers on it in the middle of July which will be very much to your advantage. More details next week
PPS Sunny now has his Pet Passport and so will be able to come on wine tasting trips with us, sniffing our some tasty bargains. We will have to be careful though as grapes are poisenous for dogs, apparently.
