Yippee, the fire is working at The Inn and we have that warm glow about the place again. Some say it is just the red wine but glow it definitely is.

We have had some fantastic weather this Autumn and the colours on the Turkey Oak on the green opposite the pub has been fabulous but it is now almost bare. With Autumn comes game and we are making the most of it with our game nights every Monday. Grouse, Partridge, Pheasant, Red Deer, Mallard, Teal, even some wild Goose has been on the menu, not just on a Monday but especially on a Monday. In the same way Fish nights on a Wednesday have proved very popular, so why not come on down and enjoy our great specials board.

We are also very fortunate this Wednesday (11th November) to have Dirk Niepoort coming down to talk us through his wines, which will be fantastic – why not come and join us, just £49.50 for a great meal including wine, but do book as there are only 10 spaces left. Dirk’s family are originally Dutch but have been in Portugal for something like nine generations. He is an interesting winemaker who makes a range of table wines as well as ports. Working with vines in the mountainous, dry and very hot hills of the Douro valley he makes the best of the unusually varieties of grapes that grow there. The following week, on Thursday 19th, we have Richard Jones here from Hyden Farm to talk about his farm and farming activities. He is a very hard working and amusing man of the land and it should be a very good evening. £49.95 including wines – please book.

I am looking forward to Christmas, carols, mince pies, high jinx and fun. I am looking forward to being very busy, judging by the bookings we have so far. Our aim is to produce really good, flavoursome food and to help you have a really good time when you come here, so here’s to a great festive season.

If I’m not here when you are, I apologise, but I am probably off shooting, visiting my ageing parent or at some wine tasting or other. Rest assured, I would rather be here with you, having the odd glass and lots of fun. Look forward to seeing you very soon,
